TASK 1
Design Principles: Patterns
One of my favourite projects i've done was the hand-drawn 'Pattern-making' assignment in Design Basics module in semester 1.
In this first DB assignment, we were first introduced to the principles and elements of design such as: points, lines, textures, repetition, movement, unity, rhythm, balance, and much more...
Each of us had to snap 2 black & white pictures: One man-made and another one Natural objects which contains pattern in them. Then, we had to identify, annotate and extract patterns, elements and principles from both images.

Natural Pattern
This was a closeup picture of an owl I took outside. I then extracted the shapes, textures, lines, and points I see on the owl's body. We all had to manually annotate it using arrows and sketches on an A4 paper using pen.

From my extractions, I then chose 4 design principles, which for each 4 of them we had to come up with one pattern in a square box, containing elements extracted from step 1. After making 4 of the patterns, we needed to write descriptions under each one to show how the pattern relate with the chosen design principle.

Man-made Pattern
This second pattern is based on my picture I took of the roof of KLCC mall. Afterwards I extracted the elements similar like how I did for the previous natural pattern.

Finally, for each Natural and Man-made, I combined all the 4 small patterns to create the final pattern design....

TASK 2
Self-Portrait Collage
In our 2nd task, I had to take 4 different pictures of my face with different expressions. Then we had to extract elements and do a facial analysis.
Afterwards we had to do 2 physical collage and 2 digital collage using our face cutouts and elements, showing a concept or meaning to each collage. We had to use design principles in all the collages to describe it.
Lastly, we had to combine elements/techniques from all the 4 collages to produce one final physical collage with a narrative.

TASK 3a and 3b
Designer's DNA: Groupwork
In a group of 6 (me as the leader), in Task 3a we had to study on 1 Malaysian artist, ours was 'Rafiee Ghani'. We had to do researches on his art styles, principles/elements, and techniques he used in his artworks and later on make a tactile abstract on canvas art piece, implementing Rafiee Ghani's design language.
For the last project in DB (Task 3b), we had to do an individual work based on the previous grouop work. Each of us had to make a vertical sculpture using elements, principles and techniques/styles we used in our canvas. Adding to that, we must have a narrative and concept to our sculptures.
