Contextual Studies (CTS)

CTXS was comprised of 4 main projects:

 TASK 1

Precedent Studies

In our first individual assignment we were to analyse, make researches on any design outcomes in the creative industries to find a problem, hypothesis and conclusion for a project proposal in A2. I had to select 3 precedent studies on that one chosen topic.

We were to create our precedent studies in slides. I picked one topic to research on which was ‘Medieval art elements’ .

My topics was: ”Contemporary movie style influenced by medieval arts elements”. I then researched, analyse movies and compare the elements there with actual medieval elements and see what things they both have common and find evidences and conclusions to my findings, investigation and researches.

Lastly I ended the slides with a hypothesis to state my findings from the overall research.

Based on our previous task in A1, we had to analyse our findings and make a storyboard based on my topic in task 1, to be shown to a specific chosen audience. We had to compose & illustrate our visual ideas. My outcome for this task was an educational animation for children.

Firstly I extracted my hypothesis and findings from my Task 1 and narrowed it to a single problem. I came out with 2 narrative directions for my draft and picked the best one for the final outcome. I then sketched out and then colour my storyboard which includes my characters as well as descriptions below each panels to show the camera movements, angles, and sound effects.

Our submission was in slides form.

 TASK 2

Storyboard Proposal

 TASK 3

Final Proposal - Group

In groups of 5, we had to create a final prototype and proposal with a clear storyline based on our two previous assignments. We then had to create a short video as a visual expression showcasing our final prototype as well as proposal in the form of slides to convince potential clients and our target audience.

My group first made a mindmap and brainstorm on our topic. We then finalized our directions to make a ‘Hanabi Japanese Festival Pop-up brochure’ targeting Malaysian local cultural tourists and to attract them to go and visit the festival in Japan.
