Design Exploration (DE)

DE was comprised of 3 main projects:

  Project 1

Line Wire 3d sculpture

In the first individual project, we had to choose ONE vegetable and study its form and characteristics by sketching, observing and taking notes.

Afterwards, we had to explore unique forms that we can make, extracted from the studies of our vegetable and finally make a line-wire sculpture using different colours.

For mine I made a butterfly-shaped sculpture using the forms and characteristics of a capsicum which i've studied earlier.

Here, we had to make a Totem sculpture design fully by using paper cups only. We were not allowed to use any glue or tape to make it, but using paper techniques instead such as: folding, cutting and slotting.

A lot of explorations and testing were done throughout the process, making sure that it is stable and can stay as one without falling off. This task really helped our creativity and thinking/problem solving skills too.

  Project 3 - group

3D Modelling & Sculpting using 'Blender'

For our final group (digital) assignment, we had to choose a book and read: 'Animal Farm' by George Orwell. Afterwards each of us will need to choose one character to study on.

Each of us had to do a research and analyse our characters' characteristics and behaviours based on the text passages we have read from the book and then map it out. We did text annotations and notational sketches, quotes taken from the book.

Lastly, we had to first individually sculpt our chosen characters in Blender software. Finally, for the last part we then combined all of our characters together in one Blender file for the final submission.
